Iron and steel industry has widely used briquetting technology, such as: coal briquetting, coking briquetting and sponge iron briquetting which is the most well-known product for easy and safe transportation of sponge iron worldwide.
With increasing the number of Electric Arc Furnace in Asia and other countries as well as decreasing the possibility of producing high-quality iron scrap with the density of 1 MT/m3, using D.R.I and H.B.I charging has been considered remarkably as the best solution for producing iron.
Hot Briquetted Iron (H.B.I) is a relatively new product, developed in the past 25 years, as a supplement for pig iron and scrap in electric furnace steel mills. It is a compacted form of direct reduced iron (D.R.I), which facilitates its handling, storage, and use.
Using a continuous Hot Briquetted Iron charge in the furnace results in reducing the number of charging iron scrap baskets to the furnace. Obviously, decreasing the number of baskets will decrease the time of preparation, which will also increase productivity and production.

The principle market for H.B.I is electric arc furnace (EAF) steel making, but H.B.I also finds application as a trim coolant in basic oxygen furnace (BOF) steel making and as blast furnace (BF) feed stock.
